'The Nightly Show' will no longer be nightly, on TV at all

And with that, The Nightly Show is no more. After only a year and a half on air, Larry Willmore's Colbert Report replacement has been canceled by Comedy Central. The show is getting one last hurrah this week with its for real finale being this Thursday, August 18. @midnight will move to 11:30 PM until the network can find a replacement. The cancellation comes as one year renewals for Willmore and more than a dozen other creative types were coming up.

It's strange that the show would be canceled now and not after the Presidential election but Comedy Central president Kent Alterman offered up a good explanation: "we didn’t want to do is create a slow death through the election, it didn’t really make sense. Unfortunately, it is what it is; it was a business decision.”

The show was created and executive produced by ex-Daily Show host Jon Stewart. It didn't really stick with audiences, showing a steep decline in viewership over its time on air (with its average being between 400,000 and 500,000.

'The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore' Has A Head Writer

Writer Robin Thede was named the head writer of the replacement Colbert Report, The Minority Report. She was the head writer of The Queen Latifah Show, creator of some Funny or Die videos and even an actress at some point. Thede will be putting in most of the input on the show because that is what her job requires of her. There will most likely be a more diverse mindset on The Minority Report with more women and, as the title suggests, minorities. Also, Comedy Central said Wilmore's show will “feature a diverse panel of voices currently underrepresented in comedy and television." Thede's other credits include The Real Husbands of Hollywood and several awards shows including the BET Awards and the NAACP Awards. She has even been on Key & Peele. 

Kurt Braunohler Gets A Late Night Talk Show On Comedy Central

With the success of @midnight and the coming departure of Stephen Colbert but the addition of Larry Wilmore’s Minority Report, Comedy Central has a gaggle of late night shows. But they want more; so much more. 

Deadline reports that do gooder Kurt Braunohler is creating a pilot for the comedy cable channel. The show, called Gettin' Some Strange With Kurt Braunohler, will focus on the host covering the strangest stories of the day. 

Braunohler has been featured on @midnight numerous times and he's the host of The K Ohle with Kurt Braunohler. He also has a web series for Comedy Central named Roustabout with Kurt Braunohler where he does dumb things in order to raise money for the less fortunate. He sure does love his name. But I can't really say anything about that.
