Billy Eichner gets his own Netflix comedy special

In a world where everyone is getting a comedy special, some may wonder why other (better) comics might not have a special. One of those comics is finally getting his own thanks to today's leading comedy special incubator, Netflix. 

The Hollywood Reporter says that Billy Eichner (Difficult People) will be making his debut on the service.

Much like Eichner's "talk show" Billy On The Street the special will stand out from the crowd. The special will cater to a more variety set as opposed to the standard joke/punchline style: “a unique blend of comedy and music that will cover politics, pop culture and may also include some brand-new editions of his signature, Emmy-nominated Billy on the Street segments.”

After what seems to be two years, Difficult People is returning to Hulu this fall. The show -- created by Julie Klausner and starring her and Billy Eichner -- follows two fictionalized versions of the actors trying to make it in the acting world. CO-stars Gabourey Sidibe, Andrea Martin, and James Urbaniak return too. This season's guest stars include John Cho, Lucy Liu, Chris Elliott, Maury Povich, Cole Escola, and Jane Krakowski among others. The third season of Difficult People premieres on August 8.

Netflx's latest comedy series reminds you of your "Friends From College"

Netflix is a predictable beast. For every hour long drama it churns out, it brings on two comedy half hours. Like any network, these shows vary in terms of quality but some of them are actually well done. Writing and cast is what makes a half hour strong. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt survives because of the crew behind it. Flaked flaked because it felt self-important. The streamer's latest series, Friends From College, is one of many dark comedies with a stacked cast.

Cast way back in August of 2016, Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Savage, Colbie Smulders, Nat Faxon and Billy Eichner lead the eight episode series. Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco created the show that follows Harvard grads in their forties experiencing a wide range of success. Friends From College begins aring on July 14. 

All the seasons of ‘Billy on the Street’ to scream their way to Hulu

From internet to deep cable to basic cable, Billy Eichner’s Billy on the Street is making the rounds all over the place. The next place it’s set to premiere is right back on the internet thanks to streaming platform Hulu. The internet network (which has to be a thing now) struck a deal with truTV to air the first four seasons and 42 episodes of the hit show. Season five will follow after it airs. The Hollywood Reporter says that this is the first time a truTV series has hit the net. It’s actually coming in as an extension of a Turner based arrangement from last year.

For those who haven’t seen the show, Billy on the Street puts Billy on the streets of New York to play games with unsuspecting bystanders. He is also joined by celebrities who look like they stopped by after just waking up. So, when the show hits the web waves, you’ll be able to see all of your favorite famous people like Rashida Jones, Nas, and Maya Rudolph. The show originally started as a Funny or Die sketch series. Then it moved to Fuse for its first three seasons and finally found a forever home on truTV. That’s not the only Billy Eichner-led series you can find on Hulu. His show Difficult People with Julie Klausner is on its way back for season two on July 12th.

'Billy On The Street' to take Bill Hader, Jason Sudekis and more on the street

Web series turned television series Billy on the Street, hosted by comedian turned actor Billy Eichner, is back for a fourth season next month on its new cable home truTV. Entertainment Weekly says guest stars will be abound as per usual for the show. Newly announced Bill Hader, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Jason Sudekis are joining previously announced Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Chris Pratt, Anna Kendrick and Julianne Moore. Billy on the Street migrated from Fuse network to truTV this year. The fourth season will premiere on October 8 at 10:30 PM.
