'Yes, And' is a Book, Way of Life Written by Second City

Hey you guys! If you love improv as much as I do (and who doesn't) then you'll love Second City's new book. Coming out on February 3rd, the Yes, And highlights the seven tenents of improvisation: Yes, And; Ensemble; Co-creation; Authenticity; Failure; Follow the Follower; And listening. It's written by Second City executive vice president Kelly Leonard and Second City Works CEO Tom Yorton.

The full title is about as long as this article: Yes, And: How Improvisation Reverses "No, But" Thinking and Improves Creativity and Collaboration--Lessons from The Second City . Check out a blurb from the book below.

The rules of improvisation may sound a little like a recipe for disaster (“dare to offend” “fail in public,” “relinquish power”); in fact, the basic tenets of improv are also those that help groups like nonprofits, schools, apartment coops, and political campaigns communicate and create more effectively and confidently.

Throughout Yes, And, and with the sense of humor you’d expect from The Second City, Leonard and Yorton offer a unique look into their innovation laboratory where individuals and organizations routinely churn out the unexpected and unusual connections that lead to creative breakthroughs and paradigm shifts.

Watch 90's Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch Do Sketch Comedy

What's better than seeing two of the funniest Saturday Night Live actors in their early days? Nothing I tell you. Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch had their own sketch show (two years before Fey got the writing gig at SNL and Dratch was just recently cast) that ran at Second City and New York's UCB in 1999. Thankfully, a very grainy copy of the full Dratch and Fey show made its way to the YouTubes.
