New York Comedy Festival returns with Trevor Noah, Sarah Silverman, Bill Maher, & several hundred others

Three of today's top comedians will show their comedy chops as headliners in this year's New York Comedy Festival. Trevor Noah, Sarah Silverman and Bill Maher will be joined by other comedians as they make audiences laugh for a week straight. The Wrap reports this event is in co-production with Comedy Central. 200+ comedians will perform more than 60 shows throughout various stages in the city from Madison Square Garden, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Carnegie Hall. Several panels will be held as well such as “An Evening with the Late Show with David Letterman Writers” and “Clown Panties and Other Unpleasant Truths: An Evening with Inside Amy Schumer.” Head to the NYCF site in order to purchase tickets on August 17.

'SXSW Comedy with W. Kamau Bell' brings the festival's comedy to Showtime

Three pretty great names in comedy are teaming up for a comedy special. Showtime, SXSW and Rooftop Comedy are releasing SXSW Comedy with W. Kamau Bell, a two-part comedy special that was filmed at this past SXSW. Splitsider reports that appearances from comedians like Todd Glass, Matt Braunger, Nate Bargatze, Wyatt Cenac, Iliza Shlesinger, Beth Stelling, and Mark Normand are expected while W. Kamau Bell hosts. Part one premieres on Showtime on Friday, July 24 at 11:00 PM. The second part is oddly slated to be shown the following month.

Live in New York? Amy Poehler made a list of movies for New Yorkers to go see

New York is one lucky city. It splits movie settings between San Francisco and Anytown, USA and now it's getting a film series courtesy of Amy Poehler. For the rest of the summer, New Yorkers get to experience some of the greatest films in cinema history all the while sitting atop a luxurious hotel roof.

Gothamist caught wind of the series for which attendees can pay $20 to see classics like The JerkRushmore, and Sixteen Candles. Twenty smackers sound like too much to spend on a hand full of old movies you can get at your locally owned used video store? Hold on there sailor; that ticket also gives you popcorn, a specialty cocktail, and that great view of Manhattan.

What's more is that Poehler herself chose these movies. Perhaps her choices will you a bit of insight as to how she performs. Who knows? Maybe Poehler will attend a screening and give you a back rub. That'd be nice. The only caveat is seating; there are about twenty seats but you have a whole week to see each movie. No big deal there. You can buy tickets on the film festival's website. Check out the list below:
