Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olson are going west in a new movie
The market is hot for Aubrey Plaza, who is coming off of four movies this year, and Elizabeth Olsen, who has two films for 2016. Now, the two are co-starring in a new social media dark comedy from Matt Spicer. The Hollywood Reporter scooped the movie which is called Ingrid Goes West and has “Ingrid (Plaza) who becomes obsessed with a social media star named Taylor Sloane (Olsen) with a seemingly perfect life. When Ingrid decides to drop everything and move west to befriend Taylor, her behavior turns unsettling and increasingly dangerous.” It’s a classic tale of stalker turned friend. The script comes from Spicer and david Branson Smith. Plaza will produce alongside Jared Ian Goldman.
Jenny Slate, Jack Black to star in a polka movie while Zoe Lister-Jones, Adam Pally and Fred Armisen rock out
Indie movies are a sure fire way to get niche projects done. Better yet, they can come out exactly the way the creator wanted it to. They're getting made all the time while these other AAA blockbusters soak up all the sun. But the appeal of an indie movie is that Hollywood's top brass get a chance to shine in a more subdued, folk heavy environment.
Jenny Slate and Jack Black are starring together in The Polka King. Variety scooped the story saying that the Black produced movie is based on the 2009 documentary The Man Who Would be Polka King. The movie will follow Pennsylvania polka sensation Jan Lewan who got his fans to invest in a Ponzi scheme. Maya Forbes and Wolodarsky wrote and directed the script. The cast also includes Jason Schwartzman, Jacki Weaver, Vanessa Bayer, and J.B Smoove.
On a more personal front, Zoe Lister-Jones recently finished what Hollywood Reporter is calling her passion project. She did everything from writing to directing and even producing. Oh and she starred in it too. And she wrote the songs? Jeez, calm down girl. The movie is called Band Aid and also stars Adam Pally and Fred Armisen. The story follows a couple on the brink of divorce after a miscarriage but they decide to turn their fights into rock songs, forming a rock band to save the marriage. Casting includes a ton of comedy and television favorites like Hannah Simone, Brookyln Decker, Chris D'Elia, Jesse Williams, Susie Essman, Ravi Patel, Erinn Hayes, Jamie Chung, Jerry O'Connell, Retta, Majandra Delfino, and Angelique Cabral. Wow, Lister-Jones sure did stack this cast.
Who wants a romcom starring Rebel Wilson? We all do.
Best friend to the stars Rebel Wilson will soon have to be best friend to herself as the comedienne will be starring in her own romantic comedy. Variety is reporting that Wilson is set to star in an untitled comedy from New Line and it's going to be produced by Todd Garner (Paul Blart, Jack and Jill, Into the Storm). Erin Cardillo is writing the script. Garner's credits don't give much hope to the film but maybe, just maybe, this will be the one he knocks out of the park. Maybe. Maybe.
Will Ferrell, Catherine Keener, and Michael Cera will be 'Captain Dad'
Three big stars have just signed onto a movie that sounds nothing like Jack Sparrow fighting against Mark Wahlberg for the love of two kids. Will Ferrell, Catherine Keener, and Michael Cera will star in Captain Dad, a dark comedy written and directed by The Maid's Sebastioan Silva. Deadline has the scoop as well as teh synopsis:
