IFC wants more "Brockmire" before its initial showing of "Brockmire"
IFC is really hedging its bets with its new shows. After canceling Comedy Bang! Bang! and with Portlandia ending soon, it's going to need to stick with the shows that aren't so old. That's why the network has already asked for a second season of Brockmire starring Hank Azaria -- hours before its first showing.
The show, starring Azaria as the titular character -- a disgraced baseball announcer, comes from the Funny or Die short of the same name. Deadline suggests the renewal follows a strong digital premiere after the network released it online. 2.3 million views have been accrued through IFC.com, VOD, social platforms and FunnyOrDie.com. Brockmire airs tonight on IFC at 10 PM.
Comedy Central adds ANOTHER white man to late night
God dammit, Comedy Central. It's getting really hard to love you. Or is this Viacom's bag? Whatever the case, this decision should not go over lightly. The network announced today via press release that it's giving Jordan Klepper the coveted 11:30 PM slot following The Daily Show. Klepper is likable ad all but there are so many other voices out there, guys. So many.
Klepper's show is said to be a spin off of sorts (think Colbert Show). Network president Kent Alterman said the host's talent earned him this opportunity: "...it would take a real fool to not offer him this opportunity,” said Alterman.
Klepper has proved himself since his 2014 start with his studio and field segments that exemplify his persona. His new show aims to "embrace and define the chaos of our country by channeling Klepper’s steadfast attitude that institutions are to be trusted less than the lies of the mainstream media." So he's essentially doing what every other late night show is doing. Or, rather, what The Colbert Show did except this time there'll be correspondents.
Yesterday, Comedy Central announced a new show called The President Show that will take the 11:30 PM slot on Thursdays. Who knows what's going to happen after it's limited run time. Klepper's show is set to start airing this fall.
Comedy Central's "The President Show" is all about our dear leader (UPDATED)
Making fun of our current US president won't stop any time soon. Now, Comedy Central wants to go at it directly with a weekly series. The network announced via press release that their take on our president will come to late night. And they'll also finally have a show take over that coveted 11:30 PM spot following The Daily Show -- if only for one night a week.
Created by and starring president impressionist Anthony Atamanuik, The President Show will be "live from the Oval Office" where he can bypass all the media and their pestering questions. Regular late night tropes will fill up episodes including desk segments, remotes, and interviews with the vice president played by Peter Grosz. Atamanuik is renowned for his take on the president which has earned him a 40 city tour with fellow impressionist James Adomian, performances on several shows like @midnight and The Howard Stern Show, and several festivals.
“Laughing at the President is a proud American tradition and we hope not to disappoint anyone in that department,” Atamanuik said. “But our political system is too broken for us to be content joking about one man, even though he is a disastrous silly little toddler boy. Mostly I’d just like to thank Comedy Central for giving us this platform to speak truth to power and if we’re lucky, end up in prison!”
The announcement of this show follows a stunt pulled on the network last week during an airing of The Daily Show where the broadcast was interrupted. The next day, two mysterious Twitter accounts started teasing the new show. The President Show will begin airing on April 27.
UPDATE:
Megh Wright over at Splitsider managed to find all of the writers for the upcoming series. The list is below.
"Anthony Atamanuik (also executive producer)
Peter Grosz (also executive producer)
Jason Ross (also executive producer)
John Gemberling
Mitra Jouhari
Christine Nangle
Rae Sanni
Evan Waite
Neil Casey
Emmy Blotnick"
Also, here's a promo for the show.
Adult Swim has two more animated shows that will probably be just as weird as their current animated shows
Adult Swim is that friend that is super funny but likes to get equally dark. "The line" doesn't exist in their world. Better yet, they're the only comedy network to air specials revolving around bears. BEARS. That's pretty damn cool. This year they'll add two more quarter hour shows to their timeline.
The first is Apollo Gauntlet which follows a cop named Paul Cassidy who, thanks to evil Dr. Benign, is sent to another world where he fights crime with a talking pair of gauntlets and a magical suit. Apollo Gauntlet will premiere in the summer. The second show -- Hot Streets -- comes from writer Bryan Wysol (Rick and Morty) and follows an FBI agent named Mark Branski as he investigates his partner and her niece and dog. Hot Streets will debut in the fall.
